C. T. Sullivan brings this maelstrom of New Yorkers and their cultures bubbling to the surface in a humorous account of his time there. The history and landmarks that make the Big Apple such a fascinating place are not forgotten either and are expertly woven into the hubbub of day-to-day life in that wonderful city. I particularly like the clash and challenge of his attempts to understand American English and the despair he transmits when 'the Queen's English' is not understood by the locals. It's rare that a book will give you laugh out loud moments but there are plenty here. Even if you've never been to New York this book will whet your appetite and give you a spanking good read at the same time.

A wonderful story. I loved this very funny and interesting book. It is a real 'page turner' that makes New York more inviting and attractive. It is a definite 'must' to read before visiting that great city.

Sullivan has a gift of regaling the reader with facts but in a way which will leave you breathless with laughter, it came as no surprise to discover he is also a stand-up comedian, a poet and singer-songwriter. Sullivan of course possessed a ‘had to do list whilst in New York’, so he did just that. Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park, Carnegie Hall, yellow cabs, the Empire State Building, he has anecdotes to tell about them all. One flows into another with a delightful mixture of facts, humour and, in many instances, realisation that there are huge contrasts between English and New York culture.

Fab book from the perspective of a Brit. This book was funny, engaging and informative. Brilliantly written, I had multiple LOL moments as I learned an extensive amount about New York CIty's historical landscape in the process. The author was able to use both wit and intelligence to journal a fragment of his life while, weaving in important and relevant information regarding my hometown's existence. Well done!
