Laugh and the Whole World Doesn’t Laugh with You

Of all the creatures in the land there’s only one I know, off hand

That’s favoured with the gift to laugh and smile

It’s US, the human being, ‘cos I don’t remember seeing

Any critter that could titter human-style?

So, why have we been blessed with the urge to joke and jest

And the muscles round our lips to make them move?

If every ugly duckling got his beak around some chuckling

I’m sure that their allure would be improved.

Would it be complete disaster if all cows were graced with laughter?

Would they milk each funny line they’d ever herd?

When told a jolly ruse would it tickle and amoos?

Or, would they just chew over every word?

And how about giraffes? Do they all snatch secret laughs

When whispering tall stories in the skies?

Do pigs tell filthy gags then snort with laughter as

A wag recalls they’ll all be Walls Pork Pies?

No! To have a good old chortle you have to be a mortal

You couldn’t have a penguin reading ‘Punch’

And rolling in the aisles with happy snappy crocodiles

Could be disaster, even after they’ve had lunch.

We’re fortunate, I figure to be the one’s to snigger

What if dogs and cats were so inclined

When tickling their ears, wouldn’t it be weird

If your pet screamed with laughter every time
